This assay is useful as an aid in distinguishing between primary and secondary Polycythemia and helps to identify candidates for EPO replacement therapy (Chronic renal failure). The assay evaluates patients undergoing EPO replacement therapy who demonstrate inadequate hematopoeitic response.
