Calponin has been reported to be highly specific for normal and neoplastic myoepithelium and a valuable diagnostic aid in thedifferential diagnosis involving polymorphous low-grade adenocarcinoma, adeno cystic carcinoma, and pleomorphic adenoma of the salivary gland.
